10 Top Tips for Ticket Sale Day
Ticket sale day is going to be mental this year. The popularity of Leeds Festival increases every year, making it harder and harder to get tickets.
The best I can do is offer you these 10 top tips for the day (31st March 2008.) I hope they help.
If you have any more please leave a comment!
1. Make sure you definitely want to go - i know it sounds stupid, but just make sure you definitely want to go. Check the line-up here. Its a lot of money and someone could have had your ticket that really does want to go.
2. Make sure you have enough money - I’ve seen this actually happen. Just make sure you have enough money in your account, and make sure the site you use accepts your card. You might have to kindly ask your parents to borrow theirs.
3. Bookmark sites that are selling tickets - This is a good idea. Bookmark as many sites as you can on the 30th of March that you know are selling Leeds Festival tickets. This way you can quickly browse through them, quicker than other web users.
4. Get your mates to buy more than one ticket - The less people that actually have to buy tickets, the less strain there is on the websites selling them. 300 people buying three tickets is much better than 900 people all trying to get one. Try and club together with your mates and help everyone get a ticket!
5. Don’t give up on sites - Sometimes sites won’t load the first time you go on them because of the huge strain on their servers. Hundreds and thousands of people are trying to access the same page as you at the same time. Hit F5 to refresh a page and Ctrl + F5 for a more powerful refresh.
6. Check the line-up here - Make sure there are plenty of bands that you want to see by checking the line-up on this site before you buy. You may want to bookmark the page.
7. Don’t buy from eBay - Whatever you do, do not panic buy a ticket from eBay. They will be stupidly overpriced. There are much better alternatives if you couldn’t get hold of a ticket straight away.
8. Get the ticket sites phone numbers too. - Many people think that the internet is the best way to get tickets now, but most have fogotten that the phone will do the same job. So while everyone is off pulling their hair out over a site not loading, you could be making the important call…
9. Get there fast - Don’t think that tickets won’t sell out on the first day of sale. Believe me they will!
10. Last Resorts - Leeds Festival forums and websites offer great places to find a ticket if you didn’t get one. Try visiting here and forums.leedsfestival.com if you can’t get hold of one.
I hope this list helps. If you have any more good advise please leave a comment!

Hi Jimmy, not a problem thats what the site is here for!

I think what some websites do is buy a lot of tickets after the festival and then sell them later than the release date at a much higher price. Kind of crafty i reckon. Did you get yours for a fair price?
thanks for the comment also

Hi Durkin,
Thanks for all your info about this festival! I am not from the UK but will be traveling during that time and some of the rumoured bands in the line-up are amongst my favourite bands (the killers and metallica to name a couple!). Do you know if by using the sites you have provided above, I will be able to purchase tickets from here (Australia)?
Also, because I am unfamiliar with Leeds or Reading, I was wondering which is the closest to London airport? Or basically, which is the better location for me to catch the festival from? I am traveling with two other mates, one of which doesn’t want to come to the festival, so she’d be on her own for most of the time.
Do bands perform on different days of the festival? Or is it repeated performances over the three days? Does the festival go all day/night?
So sorry for all the questions! I am a huge fan of music festivals, but have never attended one so big! I can’t wait to see the line-up!
Great work on this site! Thanks again for all the info :o)

its a point to mention that coz tickets usually sell out within the hour most people give up around the 45 min mark which means that those patient enough to keep trying at this point are more likley to get through to get a ticket

Hi durkin, just been on the leeds website lookin about and it says on the green messengers page in the news section that the full ticket price for them (they have to pay a deposit in order to help at the festival) is 185 pounds!! … Do you know if that is correct? … if it is, its a massive increase on last years price … cheers!

We already have our tickets for this year, bought pre-sale
If all the tickets have deffinatly gone, try phoning a coach company, they often sell coach+ticket packages for reasonably prices -although u get your ticket when you get there you cant get the ticket on its own you have to use the coach. My bro did this two years ago and met us there. Its worth a try if they do sell and you cant get your hands on them :o)

I think an important thing to remember, although it sounds really stupid, is not to order yourself a reading ticket like my mate did once. Just make sure you don’t order a ticket without camping or something cos you’ll kick yourself if you’re one of the few that actually got through and then you mess it up. Also, i think persevering does work, it took me around 90 minutes sat at my laptop last year but i got through.
March 28th, 2008 6:07 am
yes! my mate did that as well david, luckily it was only a day early ticket and he sold it on eBay.
thanks for the other tips too!
March 29th, 2008 10:09 am
how many can you purchase at a time as 4 of us want to do the camping weeekend at leeds festival
March 29th, 2008 10:19 am
hi there, i just read through the terms and conditions quickly
http://www.festivalrepublic.com/terms/ticketing.aspx
i can’t see anything about a maximum. The more that one person can get the better i say! I know in HMV stores its a maximum of two.
Good luck with getting a ticket. i hope that helps

hi im a lil confused about the age restrictions. im 16 and on the official website it says no unaccompanied under 16s BUT on the terms and conditions link you posted above…it says no unaccompanied 14-16 yr olds. does this mean i’ll need an adult???
March 30th, 2008 2:38 pm
if anything this has made me more sh*tting a brick about buying a bluddy ticket
dam my nerves

to be fair mate, 16 should be fine! I’m sure its under 13y/o that need an adult. I can’t exactly see them ID’ing you on the gate either, my mums name has been on my last two tickets
I reckon it should be sweet

Hi Darkin,
Me again
I am a little confused about the ticketing system. I have been on a few sites and even read the terms and conditions, but I can’t understand about the day tickets compared to the weekend tickets? Is the only difference that the weekend tickets allow you to camp overnight? Or do I need to still purchase the weekend tickets if I am staying in a hotel but want access to the arena over the three days? I want to purchase the right one, as they are quite a jump in price for the weekend ones!
Cheers,
Rita.

i bought a coach ticket last year, the deal with it is that you reduce pollution/congestion. So to validate your bus ticket you MUST use the bus or take a form of public transport(bus/train) to get to Leeds Festival. Me and my mate couldnt get the bus as our GCSE results came out at the same time as our bus set off. We got the train and then a bus. If you really want a ticket to leeds/reading you will get a ticket, the people who are going ‘because everyone else is going’ give up and end up not getting one. Keep trying for the ticket.
March 30th, 2008 7:30 pm
Rita, if you want to go to all three days you must by a weekend ticket or three day tickets (obvisouly the weekend ticket is a better option)
A day ticket only allows entry for the ONE day of your choice, a weekend is all three days. I hope that helps!

[...] My advice for ticket sale day is don’t panic, and bookmark as many ticket selling websites as possible before they go on sale. leedsfest.org offers an excellent guide for getting hold of a ticket in their post 10 Top tips for getting your Leeds Ticket [...]

is it better to buy a ticket from hmv in leeds, will they have enough that they wont sell out straight away, and is it alot cheaper?
March 31st, 2008 5:01 am
hi there, they are the same price, but obviously you get it straight away, and you don’t have to pay postage costs. I imagine there will be a huge queue outside though, so its just a case of you either wanting to queue or trying to load an internet page.
Oh and HMV tickets go on sale tomorrow
