Name your Top 3 bands to headline in 2008

October 21, 2007, Line-up |   |

On the Leeds Festival Forum there is a competition to win some Leeds Festival tickets if you enter the three bands you would most like to headline. I’m not quite sure how it works but if you use this link to get to the forum, then I’m sure it will be easy to work out :)

    Howdy Hoooooo Partners!!

Wow Manchester is smelling real nice these days.

Who do I think will play:-

Due to research I understand QUEENS supported RAGE in a gig recently and think this will most probably happen again on the Friday night [Leeds Festival] in 2008.

As for the Indie night, well i reckon it’s a toss up between Cold Play, The Cure [As they are releasing an album] Franz Ferdinand and The Libertines all for a similiar reason.
Most likely Franz Ferdinand and The libertines. [Not exactly by preference]

And as for Sunday [LEEDS] The Killers, and on the same night, and certainly a headliner but unsure on which stage, DAFT PUNK.

My Choice:- A full extended slot for RAGE AND QUEENS [Friday]

Beck and Patrick Wolfe for Saturday [Although Probably Unlikely]

And the cherry on the cake Radiohead/David Bowie and The Killers.

And something that would greatly improve the festival, merely a suggestion is giving the two main headliners for each day two equal two hour slots instead of some mediocre-passe plop.

Furthermore, when for the love all of humanity are you going to get that RAMMSTEIN BOYS on the scene…

thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Radiohead or Bowie at Leeds would sell me the ticket. If no big names that i really like play, i doubt i will go this yeah to be honest!

Have the foo fighters got something new coming out this year? I remember they played in 2005, they put on a really good show, in terms of lights and lazers , and obvisouly, the music was good!

I haven’t heard of the other two bands but if i hear any rumours i will post them on the blog, thanks for the post!

I think you would have a lot more chance of getting those three at Download. Leeds is usually more Indie orientated (Whatever Indie measns these days!)

    thanks for the comment :)

i’ve been hearing a lot about paramore recently. I wouldn’t be suprised if they play at the leeds weekened. Maybe on the nme stage though? They seem to be up and coming, rather than a headlining act.

    I have a friend who works for Festival Republic. She obviously doesn’t want to be named, but she did recently tell me the following after a few beers ;

Kasabian are defintely booked as main stage headliners.
They are very close to securing Rage Against The Machine.
The third headline slot is between The Verve and Stereophonics.

    Pearl Jam
    Daft Punk (Plllllleaaaaase!!)
Someone old school like Feeder :)

Would be amazing to see Devendra Banhart and the King Blues back for a second year too.

OF Montreal, Beirut and Modest Mouse for a smaller stage??…

    admin
    January 3rd, 2008 6:16 pm

Cally - two of them are basically confirmed.

Daft Punk would be awesome, i would love to see them live at leeds! I imagine that modest mouse will play a bigger stage!

    Johnboy
    January 4th, 2008 7:54 am

From what I can gather, it’s now looking far more likely that Stereophonics will be playing at V Feastival and that The Verve will be at Leeds/Reading. So our three headliners are almost definitely Rage Against The Machine, Kasabian and The Verve.

I know that FR are still trying to get another big name act for this year’s festival, so maybe expect one of the above to be ‘relegated’ to second headliner or oven ‘co-headliner’.

    admin
    January 4th, 2008 8:01 am

thats cool, well i would prefer to see the verve and Ashcroft over Stereophonics any day! :) Thanks a lot for the useful information!

What are the odds of The Hives playing??
Not as a headliner obviously, but they just finished some UK gigs and have a new album out.

Would be great to see them again.

KOL usually play at Leeds. I’ve seen them there twice and I agree, i thought they were one of the best bands i’ve seen live. There is loads of time before the festival so hopefully they will get announced.

Pretty sure NOFX are playing 2008 as they self confirmed to play 2007 but there was a cockup between the bookers double booking them and jimmy eat world…..so they didnt end up playing in end….

    HOWEVER

fat mike confirmed nofx will play 2008 as he stated ’see you at reading’ when i went to see them in Birmingham a couple of months ago.

less than jake also fels confirmed to play at gigs.

I am pretty sure Rage will play but have no inside info.

I believe UK punk band ‘Milloy’ will get a place in the lockup….mike davies stated them as ‘uk’s finest punk band’ and kicked off 2008 radio1 punk show with them recording four tracks in the studio. also their new record label ‘household name records’ have close ties with the lockup due to sending bands such as capdown, king blues etc each year.

The best ever headliners would be…

    1. Led Zeppelin!!!

    2. Queens of the Stone Age!!!

    3. Rage Against the Machine!!!

Everyone should recognise this as the perfect festival headliners!!!

It would be nice to see the following headlining at Reading & Leeds 2008:

    1. Lostprophets - amazin live!!!

    2. Kings Of Leon - ace songs!

    3. Muse - come on they’re festival legends!!

and it would also be nice to see on an earluer slot:

    Bullet For My Valentine
    Kooks
    QOTSA
    My Chemical Romance

    January 16th, 2008 1:54 pm

i dont think many people understamd headliners; sum 41, nofx, korn and kooks are good bands, but will not headline. Ive heard that Foo Fighters are playing a few festivals so my predictions for headliners this year are:

    - Rage against the machine

    - Foo Fighetrs

    - Metallica

    Andiee
    January 18th, 2008 10:46 am

i doubt foo fighters will play; they’ll be concentrating on theur Wembley and Manchester gigs. plus i would be rather annoyed if i opayed like £50 for a foo’s gig then find out their playin Leeds!

I’ve seen a hell of a lot of crap about some of the bands gunna headline or who people want to headline, to name a few:
    Fall Out Boy
    Lost Prophets
    30 seconds to Mars
    Panic at the Disco

Sorry but these are not headliners and neither are the Kooks. Don’t get me wrong, they are pretty awesome because I have seen them twice and have tickets for their tyour in Sheffield but I would be really disappointed if they were to headline.
Would also be disappointed if the Kaiser Chiefs were to headline.
    My tips looking like
    Foo Fighters
    QOTSA
    Rage against Machine

And another thing, I saw that some muppet has put on that the Libertines will headline, sorry but that a load of crap as well. The libertines were down right amazing and always will be, the babyshambles are also awesome and so are dirty pretty things. Both will play at some point during the weekend!

well seens as Rage are strongly rumoured by almost every site, i would have to say thier a safe bet, most likely will be on friday, for saturday i hope it turns out to be the foos, but as im researching am gettin mixed signals as to whether theyll play a big british fest. as thier playin wembley soon :D, soo i think the killers mite clinch the headline thier, and as for sunday its got to be metallica, thier 1st half of the tour contain no british dates but its stated that thier second will include at leats 1 british visit, and most lilkely a fest, with download headliners already set in stone i think we cn expect a headline slot to be filled by the tallica boys… soo i hope the headline are Rage, Foos and Metallica…but a think itll be Rage, Killers and Tallica.! cya

    Durkin
    March 4th, 2008 6:20 am

Thanks for the lengthy comment Danny! I heard that Greenday have confirmed themselves for the festival but i couldn’t get onto their website because of some stupid plugin so i can’t officially post it yet!

I think Rage are almost certain, metallica a good chance and then either the killers, greenday or foo fighters

i can tell you for a fact that you wont see maximo park
as they confirmed they will only play v festival or sumt im not sure if it is v but i know it is definately not leeds and as arctic monkeys headlined glasto last year i somehow doubt they will play leeds this year
we may however see alex turner and miles kane make an appearence
i definately want to see pete doherty with the shambles or solo

as theyre 3 americans, these would be likely and would be good for me!

    My Chemical Romance= Friday
Green Day or Killers = Saturday
Metallica or Rage against the machine = Sunday

    Ideally

    Friday - Rage
    Saturday - Foo Fighters
    Sunday - Metallica

    Would be insane

But realistically, don’t think Foos will be there :(

    I think for Leeds

    Friday: Metallica
    Saturday: Rage
    Sunday: The Killers

    Queens Supporting Rage
    Slipknot or Bullet supporting Metallica
Bloc Party or the kooks main support for Killers

I also can say that My Chemical Romance are playing on one of the days as a friend has toured with them and has recently spoken to them. You dont beleive it if you don’t have to, but thats what i heard.

    can’t wait!

    Trencher.
    Muse.
    Chopin.

That would be hilarious. I would also actually like that line up immensely (Even though chopin is dead…)

My line up is not much less likely than many others posted here.

The Real Line Up looks goood to me though. =].
